WYC SAFETY REGULATIONS 2007



 

SPOT CHECKS WILL BE CARRIED OUT DURING THE SEASON.

YACHTS FAILING TO COMPLY WILL BE LIABLE FOR DISQUALIFICATION FROM

ALL PREVIOUS RACES

 

WYC recommends that crews wear lifejackets for all waterborne activities. All yachts shall comply with ISAF Special Regulations Category 5 plus:

Required Portable Items for daylight races:
 

1. One anchor and suitable chain or warps. When an anchor warp is used at least 6 metres of chain must be fitted between the warp and anchor.
 

2. Each yacht shall carry at least one crew member in addition to the helmsman.
 

3. One suitable manual bilge pump.
 

4. One bucket of stout construction with at least 9 litres capacity plus a lanyard.
 

5. At least 4, in date, red hand-held flares & 2 orange smokes.
 

6. At least one fire extinguisher if engine, electrical system or stove is fitted.
 

7. If an engine is not fitted a tow line and paddle or oars.
 

8. A compass, properly installed.
 

9. A First Aid box and manual.
 

10. A Lifebuoy and drogue or Lifesling, with marine grade retro-reflective tape.
 

11. Suitable fog signal.
 

12. A storm trysail or facility to reef the main to max 60% of its luff height.
 

13. Tools, spare parts, including a hacksaw.
 

14. A bucket.
 

15. A lifejacket with whistle and marine grade retro-reflective tape for each crew member.
 

16. Chart(s) covering the area Tees to Scarborough.
 

17. 2-Way Marine VHF Radio
 

18. Echo Sounder or Lead line.
 

19. A heaving line shall be provided of 15-25m readily accessible from cockpit or helm.
 

20. Yacht’s name shall be marked on buoyant equipment.

 

 

Recommended extra equipment:
 

1. Radar reflector.
 

2. Waterproof flashlight.
 

3. Sail numbers for display when sails are down.
 

5. A safety harness for each member of the crew.
 

6. An extra suitable anchor and warp.


 

For Waypoints beyond Boulby or Scarborough and for offshore races:

 

1. All the above requirements and recommendations plus:

 

2. Radio receiver capable of receiving weather forecasts.

 

3. Navigation lights as required by the International Regulations for Prevention of Collisions at Sea.

 

4. Dinghy or liferaft.

 

5. Means of providing hot meals for the crew.

 

6. Sleeping berths for at least half of the crew.

 

7. An additional fire extinguisher.

 

8. A powerful waterproof torch and spare batteries.

 

9. Charts covering the area from Blyth to the Humber.

 

10. An additional lifebuoy with an attached strobe light.
